Just How Amazing Is Grace?
Grace. It’s what we are saved by, but how does that change the way we view our relationship with Yahweh? This Sabbath, Pastor Mark D. Vlad shared a different perspective on what grace means for us as believers.
Throughout the scriptures, we see tellings of incredible followers of Yahweh, people like Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David. We know that these were people that Yahweh loved, and that showed great faith, some of whom are even said to be men after Yah’s own heart. What we don’t always remember is that these men also had moments of making terrible decisions.
When we think of Noah, we typically don’t think of him being a drunk. Yet in Genesis 9, we see him grow a vineyard and become drunk to the point of being uncovered in his tent. This decision cost his son greatly when he discovered him and told his brothers.
The first thought when we think of Abraham is likely “Father of Nations”, but Abraham had his own share of bad decisions. From putting his wife in harm's way by lying about his relationship with her, to deciding to take matters into his own hands when he felt that Yahweh was taking too long to make good on His promise. This decision still affects people today, thousands of years later.
When we think of Moses, we think of the redeemer. We think of the man, that by Yahweh’s power, led the Israelites out of slavery and gave them Yahweh’s commands. We don’t always think of the time that he got angry and took away the glory from Yahweh by implying that it was his power that had provided for the people. This costly decision made in the heat of his anger cost him the ability to enter the promised land.
Finally, we get to David. David is perhaps the most widely esteemed for being a man after Yahweh’s heart. Many followers use the psalms that he wrote to also become closer to Yahweh, especially in times of need. However, this is still the man who took another man's wife, got her pregnant, and when he couldn’t make her husband go home to her, he ordered him killed. A murderer is someone who is a pillar of our faith. How can that be?
When we read Hebrews 11, we don’t see the mention of the crimes committed against Yahweh. We don’t see all of the bad things that Yahweh had to forgive them of. No, instead, we see all of the ways that their faith brought them closer to Yahweh. Really, we see the GRACE that Yahweh has given them. The grace that wipes away the sin and instead covers them with righteousness. If Yahweh was able to do that for a drunkard, an adulterer, a man with explosive anger, and a man guilty of murder, why do you question that He does the same for you?
When you come before Yahweh, covered by the blood of Yahshua that was shed for you, He sees someone He loves! Someone He cherishes and someone who is covered in grace. This grace means that He doesn’t look at you for all of the things that you have done wrong, but for all that you are. A creation made new in Him, perfect and blameless in the sight of Yahweh. We praise Yahshua for sacrificing Himself so that we can experience that grace!
If you are struggling with seeing yourself through the eyes of GRACE, we invite you to join us every Saturday at 2 pm. We would love to be able to show you the love that Yahweh has for you!
