Abraham: A Friend of Yah?
This past Sabbath, we heard from Pastor Mark about what it means to be a "friend of Yahweh" through the life of Abraham.
Abraham's story is summed up in Hebrews 11:8-19 and can be broken down into a few main parts.
Abraham was called by Yahweh to leave his home and set out on the path that Yah had made for him. Abraham did all of this willingly and without any sort of reservations. The hardest part of following in Yahweh's path for many people is the beginning. We are often too comfortable to want to set out into the unknown, but we should take advice from Abraham's decision. Repeatedly, Abraham is faced with choices where he can either stay comfortable, or trust in Yah.
The next thing we see in Abraham's story is that he was always pushing forward. He lived for many years as a nomad, traveling from place to place. This may sound like a difficult choice, but once you start on the journey Yahweh has in store for you there is no past anymore. The only thing we should be doing in life is moving forward. After all, Yahshua did not die on the cross for us so that we can remain stuck in place and living the same sinful life.
Finally, Abraham was faithful. This may seem like a simple thing when it comes to what we believe in, but it is also the most important. We don't know where life will take us. We can only have faith that Yahweh will guide, lead and protect us along the way. Through all of Abraham’s mishaps, sacrifices and trials, he always remained faithful to Yah.
If we also want to be called a friend of Yah, then we need to model our lives after Abraham’s. Follow Yahweh’s commands willingly, have trust in Him, keep moving forward, and always remain faithful.
