What’s In a Name?
Yeshua has many different names and titles in the Bible and all of them have significance to us. There is power in names. There is power in the names that we are given and there is power in the names we use to call out to our Savior.
The first name is Immanuel. This comes from Matthew 28:20 and literally means "Yah (or El) with us." This name is a powerful reminder of the promise that was given to us many times throughout the Bible; that Yahweh would never leave us or forsake us. It is also a reminder of the fact that Yeshua became flesh for us. He willingly took on humanity, and all of the issues that people still face today for us!
The next name is Lamb of Yah. Yeshua is called this by John the Baptist in John 1:29. This name encompasses Yeshua's sacrifice for us. In addition to becoming human, He also took on our sins. The Lamb covers ALL sins, past, present and future.
The next title is our Rock. This is found in 1 Corinthians 10:1-4. You don't build a house or any other structure on ground that is unstable and susceptible to the weather. Likewise, our faith needs to have a strong foundation. Yeshua is the rock that we can cling to in hard times, and build our life on.
Finally, He is the Bread of Life. This is found in John 6:30-35. His flesh was our sacrifice so that we may live. Just as bread and water is healthy to our physical bodies, so is Yeshua healthy to our spirits. We need nourishment in order to grow and become stronger. Yeshua has and will supplied all that we need and more.
These are only a few examples of the names and titles that Yeshua has, but they are all equally important to us in different ways. If you struggle with feeling alone, then call upon Immanuel. If you are feeling weighed down by your sins and shortcomings, then call upon the Lamb. If you feel like your faith is on shaky ground, then call upon the Rock. If you are feel malnourished in your spirit and relationship with Yah, then call upon the Bread of Life. No matter what you are going through, our Savior has a name for you to call upon.
